Queen excluders get covered in wax and propolis and need a clean if not kept on the same hive year after year. The metal dustbin on the gas ring had a bag of washing soda added (that breaks down the wax). It take some time to heat up. These are cold now - and half of the crud was scraped off when they were hot. This is not one of my favourite bee keeping jobs. Click here to see the video
